The God Who Sees Me

Thereafter, Hagar used another name to refer to the LORD, who had spoken to her. She said, “You are the God who sees me.” She also said, “Have I truly seen the One who sees me?” Genesis 16:13 (New Living Translation)

Hagar was a servant – not of Hebrew blood – and had been used by her barren Mistress to gain a child in her (Sarah’s) name. After she realized she had achieved what her boss had been unable to achieve in decades, she grew pompous. Sarah couldn’t stand her rebuff and dealt with her harshly….

The only solution Hagar conjures is flight… Flight towards Egypt, the land of her past. Flight away from Abraham and a future with his God. Flight… carrying the baby in her womb….

But the God-who-sees intercepted her….

Child of God, He sees… Even the things you wish He didn’t. Trust Him too. Trust that He must know what next to do.

Do not return to Egypt. There is a baby you must birth in Canaan; A baby who will become a great nation….

Look! See the God who sees you!
