Only for God wait thou in stillness, my soul; For from Him cometh my hope. Psalm 62:5 (JPS Tanakh 1917)
It is the hardest thing for a child of God to do; the most painful deliberate position to be in. When all around you are threatening – fiery serpents are biting; Pharaoh’s armies are chasing; Jericho’s walls are daring; Goliath voices booming louder than your cries…
And God whispers just loud enough above the din for you to hear… saying “Be Still…”
How???? How can I stay still Lord? Something has to be done… quickly… now… NOW, Lord. The fire has to be quenched; the flood has to be subdued; the storm has to be stilled; the enemy has to be stopped; matters have to be settled; questions have to be answered; needs met, debts paid, funds raised…. Something has to be done. Do you not care that we perish?
Even though I tryyyyyyyyy to encourage myself in your word, I find little solace in your acts… What’s up Lord? I simply do not understand… Is this some sort of punishment? ’Seems greater than a test, heavier than a burden, weightier than a yoke…. Like you’re deliberately putting me under; stuffing sand in my mouth; snuffing out my breath; stifling my joy…my peace…my life… And if you don’t do something to save me now I swear I’m going to just die………………………….
“Be still, I said… Don’t pray, don’t sing, don’t think, don’t cry, don’t speak, don’t laugh, don’t dance, don’t shout, don’t die…. Just hushhhhhhhhh for a moment and watch!
Be still Moses; Pharaoh and his armies will drown in their red sea. Be still Joshua; Jericho’s impenetrable walls will fall upon them. Be still Jehoshaphat; your adversaries teamed up against you will destroy one another. Be still David; Absalom’s’ hair will ensnare him, Joab will finish him off and Ahithophel will kill himself. Be still Mordecai; Haman will be hanged on the gallows he built for you. Be still Joseph; you’re being set up for royalty. Be still O Israel, I Am always has a plan. Be still child of God…having done all to stand, stand still!
Those who are with us are more than those who are with them (2 Kings 6:16) Be still and know that I am God (Psalm 46:10) Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord (Exodus 14:13) And it shall be that everyone who is bitten, when he looks… shall live. (Numbers 21:9) Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? (Matthew 6:27) In quietness and trust is your strength. (Isaiah 30:15)
Practice Stillness… Let the Lord minister to you.
